Jedward, or John and Edward Grimes to use their correct names, are the most controversial characters of X Factor 2009. They can't sing or dance but they seem to have something that's captured the imagination of the British public who keep voting for them each week and keeping them in the talent show.

The first audition they had Simon Cowell labeled them as some of the most annoying people he had ever met. I had to agree! They seemed a bit too ambitious to make it and quite willing to step over anyone who got in their way. By the time we got to the live X Factor auditions Jedward weren't doing much better in the eyes of Mr Cowell or the live studio audience. Booing was quite frequently heard after their live performance but the guys just seemed to take it on the chin and get on with the music. I've always been amazed at how think skinned these guys are. The British media has of course really gone for them talking about how they'll ruin the show and they can't possibly win etc. Week after week they keep getting through.

Recently something strange has started happening with Jedward though. It's like they've become so bad they're good. I always imagined it was young kids who were pestering their parents to vote for the Irish twins because of their colorful and energetic performances. This seems to have changed now and everyone wants to see what they'll do next and so the British public votes for them. On the back of this we have Jedward merchandising! Including the now infamous 'Vote Jedward' and I heart jedward T Shirts. There's numerous places you can buy them online with different prices and quality of shirt. They come in all shapes and sizes with various supporting slogans on there for the twins. I'm sure they're not getting a cut of this but that's not really what it's about. It's about showing your support for the most annoying X Factor contestants in years who we've all strangely now come to love. Perhaps we just like to see the underdog triumphing once in a while or perhaps we've got sick of Simon Cowell's smugness and want to stick a finger in his eye by letting these 17 year old kids win. Personally I think it's been part of Simon Cowell's plan from the start! He's turned them into panto villains where people tune in every week to see if they get kicked off. I'm not sure if he was expecting the British public to turn the other way however and genuinely start to like them. How else could you explain the I love Jedward t shirts? No one's going to wear that if they hate the Irish Twins. On the other hand you could always go for the I hate Jedward t shirts which online companies also sell? No one would be so cruel as to wear one of those would they? Come on folks they're just kids!
