Cockapoo Puppies Cocker Spaniel Poodle Mix
81What Are Cockapoo Puppies?
Quite simply Cockapoo puppies are a mix between an American
Cocker Spaniel and a Poodle. However, because of the rising popularity of
Cockapoo puppies, a Cockapoo may be bred using a male and female Cockapoos.
Many people would be surprised to learn that the Cockapoo puppy breed has been
around since the 1960’s. The breed was created in the United States however;
the American Kennel Club because of the unpredictability breed appearance
characteristics has not recognized Cockapoos as a breed. Therefore, when you see Cockapoo puppies for sale do not let anyone use phrase such as: pure bred, pedigree, AKC registered.
Speaking of breed appearance you may be wondering what does a Cockapoo look like? Depending on the way a breeder has chosen to keep the generation, a Cockapoo may look more like a Poodle with floppy ears or a Cocker Spaniel with wavy hair. It is important to check with your breeder at least 2 generations back to understand what type of Cockapoo puppy you will be receiving. As I just stated, because of the different breeding possibilities Cockapoo puppies can be white, cream, or tan (as the Cockapoo puppy pictured below).
Different Sizes of Cockapoo Puppies
Once again this depends on whether or not the Cocker Spaniel has been bred with a Miniature Poodle or a standard sized Poodle. There are 3 different types of Cockapoo puppies for sale: Toy Cockapoo puppies, Mini Cockapoo puppies, and Standard Cockapoo puppies. Cockapoos are classed by the height of their adult body with the measurement taken at the shoulder. A Toy Cockapoo will grow to no higher than 10 inches. A Mini Cockapoo with range in the 11 – 14 inch height category. Finally, a Standard Cockapoo will grow to be 15 inches or over. Once again, it is vital to check with a breeder as to what sizes the puppy’s parents were and what size he or she is classing the Cockapoo puppy as.
Weight will vary depending on the size of Cockapoo you decide on. As a guide a Toy Cockapoo would be 10 pounds or under. A Mini Cockapoo would weight about 11-18 pounds. A Standard Cockapoo would weight anywhere from 19 pounds and above.
Obviously, choosing the size of your Cockapoo puppy will depend on the space available in your house or apartment. Also, the type of lifestyle you lead will influence the size of puppy you buy, if you are very active then it is best to purchase a Standard Cockapoo puppy.
Temperament of Cockapoo Puppies and Adults
Many owners like Cockapoo puppies because they are fairly easy to train. They are smart, so they pick up on commands fast and retain them. Cockapoo dogs are loyal and affectionate. They are good with both adults and families. Cockapoos are generally good-natured dogs. Once again temperament of a dog is highly dependant on the type of breeder you are buying from. Reputable breeders will make sure that the females are not overbred and that the bloodlines are not mixed. I can’t stress how important research and a reputable breeder is when buying a puppy.
Best Type Of Living Arrangements For Cockapoos
Cockapoos are a moderate energy dog, so a small yard or a nice long walk everyday will be great for getting out that energy. Cockapoos do well in both houses and apartments.
As far as climates go, Cockapoos don’t mind
the colder weather because of their thick coats. Do keep in mind if you live in warmer climates all year round then it would be more comfortable for your Cockapoo to keep his hair shorter so he does not become overheated easily.
Cockapoo Puppy Health
A Cockapoo puppy is not predisposed to any specific health concerns due to the mixing of breeds. People often find that mixing breeds will result in a healthier dog. The most important areas to look after are grooming and ears. Ears are important because of the long wavy hair and floppy ears. Dirt can become trapped in the hair and because the ears flop over, no air can get to the area resulting in an ear infection. An ear infection, as anyone who has had one can tell you, does not make for a good time!
How Often To Groom And Bathe Cockapoos
As stated Cockapoo puppies have longer wavy hair, which requires that owners brush them a minimum of 3 times a week. Brushing your Cockapoo will also reduce any chance of shedding. Cockapoos should be groomed and bathed about every 6 to 8 weeks.
Of course it is always a good idea to get into a routine of brushing your Cockapoo's teeth. Also, make sure that his nails are clipped and do not get too long and become uncomfortable.
Cockapoo Puppies For Sale What To Know
There are various places that will have Cockapoo puppies for sale: breeders and pet stores. It is important to realize that pet stores may receive some or all of their puppies from a puppy mill. You also won't be able to see or check the mother and/or father of the puppy therefore, you have no idea what you are getting.
Because Cockapoos are a mix and not a breed recognized by the American Kennel Club if you want to purchase your Cockapoo puppy from a breeder then make sure to do some research. Don't be afraid to ask the breeder for references and ask any of your friends that bought Cockapoo puppies that are now a bit older.
My personal perference for a mixed breed dog is to visit a shelter to adopt a Cockapoo. The people working in the shelter will be helpful and patient because they are trying to help to dog or puppy achieve a better life rather than just make a profit. Also, before any dog is adopted out they must go through a series of tests including a temperament one. This ensures that the dog you're adopting will be ready for a loving family with no bad attitude traits.
Remember when you see Cockapoo puppies for sale they should not come with a pedigree pricetag! There are no pure breed or pedigree Cockapoo puppies, so don't be fooled. Essentially a Cockapoo is a mix or a mutt and whether you are buying from a breeder or adopting they should only cost anywhere from $50 - $100. The higher end of $100 should include vaccinations and deworming for that price.
Whether you are buying or adopting a a Cockapoo, make sure that the puppy at least 8 weeks of age.
How Long Do Cockapoos Live For?
Like most other types of dogs Cockapoos can live up to 15
years. This give you and your Cockapoo plenty of time to become best friends and share loads of fun memories.

Cockapoos are great dogs Ive been had two, one when I was teen she was 16 when she went to Doggie Heaven, yes I believe there is one : )
Anyway I now have another, and he is as loyal as they come and so so gentle. I got him right before my baby was born and he has been by her side since I brought her home, as a matter of fact I have to put him outside when I give her medicine because he tries to protect her.
I also have a mini schnauzer, and now have Schnockerpoos LOL great mix as well have never had a complaint one.
we have an 8 month old standard cockapoo, Skittles, (weighing in @ 22.6 lbs.) she is playful and spoiled (that leads to aggressive behavior). she has soft shiny hair down her back/ears/face/neck/tail. she has dull coat down legs/sides toward stomach. i had a cocker spaniel when i was in elementary school and never remember the aggressiveness. Also had a poodle in high school with no agressiveness. how can this be and her hair?
Thanks for the info and photo. Thought my pound pup was a poodle-terrier mix, but the groomer said she thought cockapoo. He looks exactly like the dog in your big photo here, so I guess the groomer is right. I agree about temperament except for one thing--mine is stubborn as all get-out!
I have recently gotten a 7 month old cockapoo named Kiwi for my birthday. well that was way back in october so he's 9 months, anyway he is very sweet, but he loves to chew, chew, chew. he's so nice and loyal. he's my fist dog all to myself and he is very loyal. wherever i go he goes. he lays right under me, on top of me,so basically he's really lazy. but if he doesn't go out for his walk he gets very restless. he jumps from the living room furniture set to the kitchen, running around crazily, but you gotta love a cockapoo!!!
I own a cockapoo, and she looks very similar to the dog in the picture, except she's black and has incredibly crooked teeth lol.
Hi, this dog is great!
just for me. the only good thing about them is that they do not shed at all. they are hyperjelite so they wont shed and you wont be allegoric.I love blogging. this had been fun. i don't recommend buying a dog or pup from a store because they are treated bad and don't get feed and you will face many problems. but them from a breeder.
We just have just become owners of a cockapoo who is 6 years old as the people who owned her wanted to give her away. She looks more like a cocker spaniel, very tiny about 12 to 15 lbs and has red hair like a irish setter. She is as cute as a button.
I would really love a cockapoo of my own. Any suggestions on where or how I could get myself a little puppy? :)

How cute! I've always though Cocker Spaniels are so adorable. I have a Cocker Spaniel/Chihuahua mix named Mushu. Interesting to see the mix between a poodle!
