Frizzy Hair Causes And Solutions

By

The Environment Causes Frizzy Hair

I can personally attest to how annoying frizzy hair is! Unruly frizzy hair can be so hard to control and takes so much more effort to style correctly. However, once you know the causes and solutions to frizzy hair you will find out how easy it is to manage your hair. Frizzy hair can be cause by a number of factors both environmental and self-imposed. Environmental factors such as sunshine can dry out your hair. Most people do not know that the harsh ultraviolet rays not only due damage to unprotect skin but unprotected hair as well! Evil humidity can definitely cause frizzy hair, as many people know. Humidity causes excess moisture to linger in the air and hair prone to frizz will drink that moisture up like there’s no tomorrow. The moisture filled hair strands then swell and bend causing that frizzy look rather than lying flat and smooth. Likewise, extreme cold can damage your hair. In colder weather just like your skin, your hair requires extra moisture to offset the harshness of the bitter cold. So basically your hair only loves two seasons out of the year Autumn and Spring!

Dry Frizzy Hair Due to Over Styling

For those of you that love to blow dry your hair you may find that rather than achieving that sleek look you end up with a giant puffball! Obviously, the heated air like that from a blow dryer will cause your hair to dry and eventually begin to form split ends, which then in turn causes frizzy hair.

Coloring your hair can be another cause of frizzy hair. The harsh ingredients that lighten your hair such as bleach or peroxide will weaken the hair and may cause it to break. Coloring your hair can also suck the moisture out of your hair, which as I talked about before will cause frizzy hair.

Also, styling products such as gels, mousses, and hairsprays that contain alcohol will dry out your hair.

Frizzy Curly Hair

Often time frizzy hair can be due to nothing more than the natural shape of your hair. When looking at a picture of straight hair follicles, the shaft of the hair appears nice and smooth. However, when we look at a picture of curly hair the hair shaft appears coarse kind of like a cactus. These ridges in the hair create not only thickness, but create frizzy hair. Since the curly hair shaft is not straight and sealed it releases moisture from the hair causing it to become dry and frizzy fairly quickly.

How To Get Rid Of Frizzy Hair

While knowing the causes of frizzy hair is great the main thing everyone wants to know is how to get rid of frizzy hair! There are several solutions to frizzy hair just as long as you remember the key to beautiful hair is MOISTURE.

To Battle The Environmental Factors: If going out in the sun of course the most obvious solution is to wear a hat such as a cute fedora or stylish, funky bandana. If you are not a hat person then some things you can do to prevent frizzy hair are: coat your hair in olive oil, this will help protect your hair even if you go swimming. No one will be able to tell you have oil in your hair anyway if you are at the beach or swimming. As I stated earlier, it is important that you follow these steps in the winter time as well.

A leave in conditioner is a must have for those with frizzy hair especially dry frizzy hair. You can purchase a lighter daily leave in conditioner that will offer moisture to your dry hair. You can also opt for a deep, intensive leave in conditioner. Deep penetrating conditioners are usually only done once a week.

Nowadays there are plenty of styling products and conditioners that contain SPF.

Frizzy Hair Due To Styling Solutions: If you need to blow dry your hair then it is recommended that you use a diffuser attachment, which will reduce the chance of frizzy hair.

Choose styling products that do not contain alcohol and shampoos that do not contain sulfates because they also dry hair and strip it of the important natural oils.

If coloring your hair, it can be a good idea to choose a brand that is listed as natural and does not contain bleach or ammonia. If you are going for a darker shade of hair color then another option is to use all natural henna based hair dyes.

Curly Frizzy Hair Solutions: Once again moisture in the form of leave in and deep conditioners are your best friends. Once your curly hair is moisturized then it you can use a curl cream or gel (without alcohol) in order to encourage your natural curl but create a smooth, control curly head of hair. It is also important that you do not brush your hair with a regular brush, it is better to use a wide toothed comb to comb your hair when wet only. Do not brush or comb your hair dry because it will only encourage the frizz to return.
